So@24: Le Pilot

It's been a tough little road to see what life is beyond this blog. A few promising leads have lead me to bleak, dead-ends or floating patiently in oblivion. With all the meetings I've had with people who are interested in seeing the blog take its next step, one thing has been consistent: everyone wants a pilot script.

I haven't given up on this project yet. Although I'll admit that at times I feel like that guy who keeps performing CPR and vigorously rubbing chest paddles together while the victim's rigor mortis has clearly set in.

Who knows? Maybe it'll be like when Timmy got revived after getting electrocuted on that big ass fence in Jurassic Park? "Tim! No, TIM!"

"I believe in you"

I thought I'd share some of the first few pages for the pilot. I had a lot of fun writing it, which is the most important part. I took some creative liberties, as those who have read the blog in its entirety will see immediately.

However, I feel the tone is pretty in step with blog and there most of scenes that are actually things that actually really happened (e.g. me on the porch in nothing but a Russian hat, a parka with a beer and Leo telling me find my manbits). But I'll let you be the judge.

Enjoy!

PS. Who would you cast for some of these roles? If Zac Efron is Leo, I would die a happy man.

I'm just curious- what does Lynn think about you turning both your lives' story into a tv series?

So I'm already 3/4 through and need a 7 and 7. Really should have started there, worked backwards and put my coyote hat on but bygones. I have a date so I need to run but I'll be finishing this tonight and, oh btw, REALLY FUCKING STOKED.

I think the character of Beth is pretty obvious:

I mean, it's uncanny.

@ M - Lynn knew about this from the very start and actually loved the pilot. Lynn and I are still friends and are on great terms.

I tried to be your friend on facebook. Do you know how many Brandon Hoangs there are in this world?!

What's your profile address?

Dude! This is really good. Seriously, it's really good. The first character V.O. is definitely the way to go with this because that way you can get all your wry observation humor in.

One suggestion: I would take out "boner" in the teaser open. My thinking is that most people who read pilot scripts are usually in a "Why should I reject this one?" as opposed to a "Why should I love this one?" frame of mind. I know how counterintuitive that may sound, but it's how they really are. So I'd be hesitant to give an impatient and possibly cranky screener/reader an excuse to stop reading because, "Nope, we can't use this one."

Of course, if you're pitching to HBO or Showtime, that's not a concern. But I'd keep all avenues open, because I could easily see this working on the broadcast networks as well. In fact, maybe have two versions - one with more explicit sex/boner jokes, the other played a little tamer. Just a thought.

Good stuff. I'd like to read/see the HBO or Showtime version of this show.

Really, I just want to see Leo in action. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if he's protrayed to have David Dechovny wit and "style".

I do make an appearance in here eventually, right? The Match.com days?

Just kidding.

Kind of.

yess make this into a show, the pilot is good stuff so far. i've read your blog a few times over the past couple years (work is SO slow in the summer) and i totally love it. my boyfriend has an ex with whom he had a 6 year relationship through high school/college so it was interesting for me to see this from the guy's view.

i will watch your show!
